Rick Mercer

Does anyone out there watch Rick Mercer's Monday Report? He used to be on This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and now has his own show. It is freaking hilarious! I have just recently become a fan and wanted to get the word out. Watch it, you'll laugh. My favorite segment is Talking to Americans...it amazes me how ignorant some Americans are of anything Canadian.

Mercer is alright. He was the heart and soul of '22'; Loved 'Made in Canada.' On the other hand, his one-tonne challenge is strikes me as a little naive...what with all that pseudo-science voo-doo they use to sell their argument. Funny thing is that if Mercer was American and did this sort of stuff to Canadians, we sensitive Canucks would pull a tantrum; we're good at whining sometimes...look at Gilles Duceppe and Jack Layton - yeesh. Perhaps Americans are self-absorbed, but so are we sometimes. Take a camera, ask questions to many people (some are bound to be dumb) and use the marvel of editing and VOILA - paint a nation stupid. That to me is low humor. Ironically, some of the most thoughtful people I have EVER spoken to were American. Can you tell I'm slightly annoyed with Canada these days? Sometimes I get the feeling we are not maximizing our potential. Enjoyed your blog.

I'm not sure the average Canadian is as unknowledgable of the United States as most Americans I've met are of Canada. I have travelled far and wide and have haunted online chat and game rooms for years, and continue to be amazed at how little Americans seem to know about Canada. I'm not sure I have come across too many thoughtful Americans.

Some of the Americans he spoke to were on a university campus, in fact, one university professor was on campus at Harvard and the university called the show to complain that he made their university look stupid.

I also think that being ignorant of things is far different than being stupid.

Thanks for reading.

Isn't it just the 'Rick Mercer Report' now? Especially since it's on Tuesday nights, anyway...

Loved it. Love it still. His best episode was with super-politico-babe Belinda Stronach.

Broke my heart, she did. *sigh*

No, This Hour Has 22 Minutes comes on every Friday night on CBC still. I watched it just last week, it was hilarious. Of course, they are getting a lot of mileage out of Stephen Harper. And last week they did a skit called Murphy's Law, with someone dressed up as Rex Murphy and torturing the poor criminal with his words ad naseaum. Check out the website, the skits are all there to watch.
