Calling All Seasonal Shoppers...

that's me. I have enough regular shopping to keep me busy, but the one I have come to look forward to the most is seasonal shopping - particularly Summer in Nova Scotia! The artisans all open their shops for the tourist season, and many of these shops are only open in Summer, making it tough at times to get to the more remote ones. The art in all of them is spectacular, and we made it to a few of the local ones today. Sew Inclined is a unique clothing store...the owner designs clothing and particularly hats often made from tapestry and brocade. My friend M. bought a bedspread there and I bought a "monkey's fist" for the kitten to play with. They are pretty cool to look at, and a great conversation piece. We stopped at Leatherworks so I could look at some bags...still looking for a good work bag to put files, notepad and planner in to lug around from house to house. I found one alright, but at $215. It is still there. So I bought a bowl instead. They make them by forming wet leather into a groovy bowl shape and letting it dry, which leaves the leather in a permanent position. After Leatherworks, we were off to Baddeck where we visited Kidston Landing - bought a pottery butter dish covered with ladybugs...too cute....and much needed. I am going to email the potter to see if she has other table items in that design and color. There were many other pieces in a little different pattern by the same potter.

So we finally hauled our treasures and our tired, dirty, and sunburnt bodies home. Oh, there was also a stop to a local pottist (didn't buy anything there) and a lovely bakery (got me some bread there, still warm from the oven!!! And we indulged on cinnamon buns. There were likely other stops, but I had a wonderful time. And talk about timing...just as we left Baddeck for home, the rain began. Good thing we had packed up early 'cause it sure sucks to pack up in the rain! Its still pissing rain, but I don't care because I had a wicked weekend!
